DQ Jan - Feb 2014 Challenge

The DQ Jan-Feb 2014 challenge was announced in January on the DQ Facebook page. However, we did not have a blog post on it . Here we are with details of the challenge.

The rules of the DQ Jan-Feb 2014 challenge were

1.Make a quilted item of any size using crazy patchwork. Quilting can be in the traditional crazy quilting style or otherwise.

2.Email 3 pics (1.of the full front, 2.of the full back, 3.close up of the quilting) of the finished item to desiquilters@gmail.com. Please do not send more than 3 pics as the admins do not want to have to choose. Or lesser. And please conform exactly to the pic requirements or you risk disqualification.

3.Please include title, dimensions and a short description of your entry.

4.Please mention if the entry is an original work or inspired. You can share your inspiration once the names are revealed after the voting.

5.Please send in your entries by the midnight of February 28th, 2014

Oops, looks like the rules for the DQ Sept-Oct '13 Challenge are not up on the blog yet ! My bad. Shall remedy that rightaway.

DQ July-August '13 Challenge

Rules for the DQ July-August 2013 Challenge

1.Make a quilted item of any size incorporating liberal use of 'Negative Space' in the design. Entries will be judged on how well negative space has been used to enhance the design and concept.
2.Email 3 pics (1.of the full front, 2.of the full back, 3.close up of the quilting) of the finished item to desiquilters@gmail.com. Please do not send more than 3 pics as the admins do not want to have to choose.
3.Please include dimensions and a short description of your entry.
4.Please send in your entries by the midnight of August 30th, 2013

In an effort to keep the challenges interesting and alive, we are now trying out the bimonthly format, i.e., the challenge will extend over two months. This is in response to multiple requests from a reasonably large number of members who are interested in participating but find themselves unable to complete their entries in the earlier time span.

March - the month of the festival of Holi, the most colourful (quite literally) of Indian festivals.

Pipli - A unique art form on fabric, originating from Pipli in Orissa, probably from the rituals at temples of Lord Jagannath, more Holy than Holi, yet the most colourful of Indian fabric-art styles.

DQ Feb'13 Challenge

There are two kinds of folks - absolute romantics and closet romantics. (Nope, there ARE NO OTHER kind) And with Valentines day around the corner, it'd be grossly unfair to not have a sappy theme for the challenge :-)

So brace yourself for some love peeps, for here are the Feb challenge rules:

1.Make a quilted item of any size, incorporating 'heart(s)' in the design

2.The said 'heart(s)' SHOULD BE PIECED. Any style is acceptable.

3.Mail 3 clear and sharp photos shot in good light, of the front, the back, and a CLOSE UP OF THE PIECING to desiquiters@gmail.com.

4.Deadline for submission is 27th Feb'13 midnight. IST.

Jan '13 Challenge - New format

A brand new challenge for a brand new year ! The test, this time, is in the text !


1.Make a quilted wall hanging of any size for your sewing space.

2.Include TEXT as part of the design. It can be a word, a sentence or a para..your wish. Something that inspires you, motivates you or just tickles you pink...your wish.

3.The TEXT part may be pieced, appliqued or quilted. Embroidering the text is not allowed unless it is for purposes of quilting.

4.Entries to be submitted BEFORE 30th Jan 2013 midnight. Please note, last date is 30th, NOT 31st of Jan.

5.Entries will be anonymous and are to be submitted in the new format as follows:

(a) Mail 3 UNMARKED photographs of your entry to desiquilters@gmail.com. The admins will allot a number and post it on FB. Pls do NOT acknowledge or hint at it as your entry in the comments thereafter

(b) Include a short description and the finished size in the email

(c) The photographs should be sharp and shot in good light. Pls include a shot of the full front view, one of the back and one close-up of the quilting

(d) Of the entries, 3 favourites will be voted for as usual, by the DQs and ranked. The top 3 entries will also be ranked by the sponsors. Equal weightage will be given to all three.

(e) Once the results are collated, winner will be announced on the DQ blog.
