DQ April'13 Challenge - Winner

It was a well fought challenge and choosing the DQ April'13 Challenge Winner from all the awesome entries was a challenge in itself. The winner is a new kid on the block...(drumroll)...DQ Anusha..who made the fabulous lotus pincushion and thread catcher.







"I used  cottons for both the leaves & lotus ...machine quilted leaves & petals .the stem is in raw silk filled with polyfill ... Inspiration - my mom & best friend ..u taught me to rise above the muddy waters below..& yeah, I didn't have a pincushion & never heard of a thread catcher ..
May not be too practical but hey neither are 5" stilettos", says Anusha.

DQ March'13 Challenge - Winner

The winner of the DQ March'13 Challenge is the lovely DQ Manju ! She has beautifully captured the essence of Pipli art in her beautiful entry.

"The Pipli inspired wall hanging is 26” by 22” in size. It is a Jaggannath ji image with a border of Pipli triangle applique …with a twist.

Usually the Pipli triangles are a layer upon layer of individual colours; I have mixed it up a little bit to give my own interpretation.

The area around the image is covered with fmq.

Usually the Pipli art form uses rick rack around the images for applique, but since I did not find any here in the width and colour that I wanted, I used the gold lace instead. " ...Manju.

DQ April'13 Challenge - Entries

 Just looooved the DQ April '13 Challenge..it brought so much eye candy. And thanks to the challenge, folks finally got around to making themselves a pincushion and thread catcher :-)

Feast your eyes..and get inspired..

Apr01 - Zakka inspired Patchwork Pincushion and Threadcatcher

Apr02 - Matching pincushion and multipurpose organiser-cum-threadcatcher. The pincushion is held with velcro and the organiser-cum-threadcatcher has ties at both ends to keep it in place by the machine

Apr03 - Set of pincushion and thread catcher

Apr04 - Pincushion & thread/mess catcher

Apr05 - Pincushion, scissors cozy & threadcatcher set made out of selvages

Apr08 - Mouse pincushion and reversible thread/scrap catcher

Apr09 - Pin cushion filled with raw rice, so it can stand on it's own weight, wool felt strip for hand sewing needles, hanging pocket for sewing tools and scrap bag for stray threads. Attached an appliqué of a thread spool in various shades of green fabric for a variegated thread look.

The DQs get to vote for their top three favourite entries every month. Unenviable task I must say !

Edited to add - In an effort to keep the challenges interesting and alive, we are now trying out the bimonthly format, i.e., the challenge will extend over two months. This is in response to multiple requests from a reasonably large number of members who are interested in participating but find themselves unable to complete their entries in the earlier time span.
